We're back! Hey there, #NoteddTribe. How are y'all?

Chile, it's been a busy summer for us. Right before we headed offline for our summer hiatus, we mentioned that we were in the process of packing and moving back to Atlanta. After a safe, beautiful drive and a tumultuous experience with U-Haul, we made it and dove right into the hustle and bustle here with conferences, watch parties, dinner with friends, and more.

Thus, we needed some extra time to start creating and sending this newsletter again, but please know that we deeply missed you, and it's fantastic to reconvene around the things we love in this very newsletter.

So, what has been going on behind the scenes?

  1. We connected and spoke with three Black women living with Lupus. We shared their stories in this article.
  2. We partnered with Dr. Tiffany Clay, Board Certified Dermatologist in Atlanta, on the misconceptions about sunscreen and the importance of protecting our melanated skin all year.
  3. We hosted a Tribe Talk on Black Women's Equal Pay Day with wealth expert and SLC Global founder Simone Craig.

And now where we are in a new month and the last quarter of 2022. As we layer up and look for spots to grab some apple cider donuts because it's our favorite time of year, we're focused on doing the inner work and taking the time for gratitude and celebration.

What does all of that mean? Like many, we're always focused on getting the work done and concentrating on the holiday(s) itself/themselves, but this quarter, we're not going to let the holidays pass us by.

We'll start by working on the inner work this month, take some time for gratitude for ourselves and others in November, and celebrate all quarter long, especially in December.

Here's what we also have in store:

  1. Many of you have expressed an interest in becoming a Brand Ambassador. We received some feedback and are in the process of revamping the program. We'll be in touch with those who expressed interest, but if anyone else is interested, click this link here, and we'll add you to the list.
  2. We're bringing back our line of journals with even. more. designs. ☺️ If it's time to re-stock and grab a new journal to get you through the rest of the year or start the new year, stay tuned because our online store will be stocked before the month ends.
  3. Last year, our holiday gift guide from our crowdfunding campaign was a huge hit. We're bringing it back and need your help filling in the pages. If you know of any Black women-owned businesses we can feature or if you are a business owner who would like to be highlighted this holiday season, please let us know here!

All to say, a lot in store for the last season of the year! Let's get to it and, as always, #StayNotedd.

  1. October is National Domestic Violence Month. According to the Institute for Women's Policy Research, more than four in ten Black women experience physical violence from an intimate partner during their lifetimes. Black women also experience significantly higher rates of psychological abuse—including humiliation, insults, name-calling, and coercive control—than women overall. Kenashia "Shia" Douglas, holistic lifestyle coach and creator/CEO of the wellness lifestyle brand, Wife of Creation, bravely opens up about the abuse during her relationship with her ex-fiancé in 2020. With the hopes of empowering and supporting other victims, she shares a slideshow of the injuries she sustained during her relationship. She shares an important call-to-action with her IG followers, "for any woman or man who has yet to truly recognize the power they possess, and finds themselves in an unhealthy environment; please know if they've done it once, they will do it again.. it is inevitable!" If you or someone you know is in grave danger from domestic abuse, call The National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1.800.799.SAFE(7233).
  2. We now have all witnessed the W**** Lives Matter t-shirt offense. While we will not be covering that part of the story in this newsletter, we will highlight Gabriella Karefa-Johnson, the fashion director at GARAGE Magazine, who was attacked for sharing her throughs on the t-shirt while attending Yeezy brand's Season 9 collection in Paris. She was the first Black woman to style a cover of Vogue. She has styled 13 international covers of Vogue, featuring Serena Williams, Kamala Harris, and Amanda Gorman as global contributing fashion editor at large. Karefa-Johnson was recently named Stylist of the Year at ESSENCE Fashion House. Her resume is extensive, with clear experience and expertise, and her name should be listed in the lyrics of Beyonce's COZY because "might we suggest you don't 👊🏾 with my sis." It won't be surprising when Ye decides to take back his offensive words as he did in a recent Good Morning America interview.
  3. Who doesn't enjoy a good voting anthem? From Big Freedia to Saucy Santana and Trina, these anthems are reminders that we should always exercise our right to vote. With just a little over a month left, here's the latest with the elections and the deadlines to register to vote in all 50 states.
  4. As y'all know, we love to congratulate our community! Congratulations are in order for:
    1. Kelley Robinson, the new president of the Human Rights Campaign and the first Black, queer woman to lead the organization.
    2. Keke Palmer, the new owner of her very own television network: Key TV.
    3. Dawn Wright, an oceanographer who recently became the first Black person to explore the Earth's deepest point.
  5. October is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Here's a friendly reminder on how, when, and why it's crucial to perform self-breast exams and a breakdown of different types of breast cancer.
  6. We've covered the term "soft life" in previous issues and often follow influencers who share how they embrace the lifestyle. Andscape senior writer Channing Hargrove explores the origination of the lifestyle to its prevalence and meaning within the Black women community, starting the article with the question: What does it mean when Black women celebrate a life of leisure? We ask you to join the conversation and share your thoughts here.

Honorable Mentions

The doors to the Ambition + Mischief community are opening up soon. I absolutely love this community if I haven't expressed it enough here or on our social media channels.

Founded and brilliantly led by my mindset coach, Sam Cartagena, the A+M community of badass women uplift and celebrate each other for everything we do (the good and the not-so-good). Most importantly, we're doing the inner work (hint hint: our work in this community inspired this month's theme). Suppose you seek on-demand and monthly coaching, co-working sessions and accountability partners, and a library of visualizations and meditations. In that case, you don't want to miss out on the last time to join this community this year.

You can learn more and chat one-on-one with Sam by visiting the link here.

This Fall, our goal is to cozy up to the fireplace and crack open a book! The first book we'll be starting this month is Everyday Magic: The Joy of Not Being Everything and Still Being More Than Enough, written by mother, influencer, and CEO, Mattie James. We received a signed copy as a gift after attending a Boss Women in Media event in Atlanta, and it couldn't have been a better gift to receive.

James walks through and helps you evaluate the tasks and decisions you face in your daily life to make sure everything in your life is MAGIC:

Meaningful. Aesthetically pleasing. Goal-oriented. Intentional. Consistent.

It's about doing the inner work with tools, insights, and encouragement to help you center yourself and become intentional about everything you do.

In connection with this month's theme, inner work, we're excited to share a few prompts we enjoy reflecting on and using to journal with. Check these four out and let us know what you think!

Have any prompts that you want to share with the community? Drop them below and we'll create a space for us to reference these prompts ongoing.

VOL 113 - THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 29 Hey, #NoteddTribe! How are you doing on this Leap Day? In a recent LinkedIn post, I mentioned we're approaching Notedd's fifth year in April. Reflecting on our journey is wild. Many of you remember receiving that very first edition where I was sweating bullets putting it together. The days, months, and years that followed were all about crafting this newsletter to amplify Black women's stories, achievements, news, and celebrations. I am immensely proud to have...

VOL 101 - THURSDAY, DECEMBER 16 How are you feeling, #NoteddTribe? We are excited to wrap up this year, with today being our final issue for 2022. Before we continue our celebration theme, I want to acknowledge and check in on how you are feeling. The news about tv personality, producer, and choreographer Stephen "Twitch" Boss was a huge shock to me and a reminder to check in with ourselves and each other more often. As you have seen in this newsletter multiple times, the feelings wheel is...
